It was unfortunate that he never knew his real parents. Though he was quickly adopted as a baby by Aaron and Matilda Evans, a young couple who had lost their child. His adoptive mother was from the USA and moved to Australia with her husband within the last year or two. They adopted the boy and named him Walter. The boy grew up slow, but healthy. The boy he had always been thin as a twig his hair was always a mass of dark curls, and his face covered in freckles. A meek child at best. Through grade-school he had to deal with the occasional bully, and the nicknames they gave him, it also wasn’t long before friends and bullies alike were calling him 'Waltz'.
Over all his childhood was simple enough, though as he got older he began to learn more about his father's profession as an officer in the army. For some reason those colorful uniforms and medals always captivated the boy. And, the idea that his father was a hero of some kind always made him proud of his father. The boy had always been 'weak' though, never really fitting in at school and tired of being bullied, he wanted to learn and get stronger. Naturally this would surprise any parent, when Walter asked to go to military school though perhaps because it was the same his father had gone, so they let him join.
Walter spent years pushing himself to study and then keep up with all kinds of work this new school had him doing. Of course he considered quitting a few times, but in the end he was either stubborn or didn’t want to disappoint his father. Unfortunately, the small dream of serving beside his father, came crashing down when Walter had only a year left of school. Aaron was diagnosed with leukemia. Things slowed down for a while Walter was crushed and considered giving up, but his father managed to talk him out of it. So he continued his classes and graduated one of the top, he'd never forget his father's smile that day. Not long after that Walter joined the armed forces his father recently had to retire from. Years slowly eased past, his father was present for his son's first medal, a simple one, but his Aaron couldn’t have been more proud.
Walter was beginning to show great growth in the military when his father suddenly became more ill. It took everyone by surprise when the young man got a discharge from army to take care of his father. The next year was hard on the family, discovering they may have more help overseas, the family packed up and moved back to the US seeking the best doctors they could. Unfortunately Aaron died two months later. Matilda and Walter were both shattered. Matilda went to live with her mother while Walter closed himself off to everyone and went off on his own. A few small jobs here or there, but nothing suited him. Before long he found himself at the age of twenty-two and back in the military.
It was around this time Walter's NEXT powers began to awaken more, though at the time had no clue. Walter and always healed from things quickly as a child, though nothing 'inhuman'. It was likely he'd had the powers all the whole time but never knew or understood it because of his power's nature not to affect those around him.
Walter proved himself to be useful and a brilliant strategist a few battles and a few years later. For a while things went calm again, at the age of twenty-three Walter met Jill. Her car had broken down as he happened past, being helpful he stopped to help her with her car. Some oil stains on his clothes soon led him to her house where she swore she would clean him up. It didn’t take long for sparks to take flame, the two began dating and realized that everything between them just clicked. It was a fun relationship, he'd never felt so open and passionate about anything. A year and a half later he married Jill, and the two moved in together immediately. Walter had a loving wife, a job to be proud of and before long a baby boy who they named Aaron.
One year later his eyes were opened to the world of the NEXT and heroes. There was a whole other world he knew nothing about, and it appeared to him in a devastating way. After all Walter had no reason to put much thought into NEXT when he nor his loved ones had any powers. Right? A simple walk home at sunset ended when a NEXT appeared and without hesitation they tore apart the family. Showing off their power? Merely looking for a target? Or maybe even lost control, no one knew why the stranger attacked them. Walter woke up three days later with scars, but with his life intact. A few months of drinking and the army threatening to give him a dishonorable discharge, he pulled his head up for a short time. He wondered if nothing else maybe he would die in battle. This was when a man came to him, another branch of the army that explained that he knew what happened. Walter was soon invited into another wing of the military, one of men who had to deal with some of the NEXT they found. A little support group it seemed, but at least he wasn’t crazy. He found himself able to relate a little better with the people around him. They were all NEXT. But he wasn’t, right? This was when his doctor told Walter he shouldn’t have lived through the damage he suffered.
Walter trained harder, knowing that Jill would never want him to give up living, so he kept trying. He got better at using guns, but also in stealth and hand-to-hand combat. Four years passed before he allowed himself to go on a date with one of the women he trained with. Elizabeth, oddly enough they clicked, though he waited a few more years before marrying again. He was a caring man feeling he had room in his heart. Sadly the marriage was not meant to be and ended about a year and a half later when the spark died and they decided to remain friends. These so-called powers he had before seemed to show a little stronger though hard to control, sometimes he'd prick his finger and heal immediately, other times it would heal normally. It was hard not to curse himself for not dieing with Jill.
A few years later he'd earned a rank as an officer and started fighting those few rouge NEXT on the side that other soldiers or policemen couldn’t handle. Obviously none of the types the HEROES were taking care of. Walter had his share of ups and downs. He married a few more times, the 3rd – Debby - ran off with another man and then got hit by a bus making him a widdower for the second time before they could divorce. And, the 4th, Rena one tried to kill him in his sleep, Walter woke up in time to get his ear cut almost all the way off. Safe to say a divorce and prison sentence followed quickly after that. The 5th wife Lana, he couldn’t even remember marrying. If there were anymore after that, he does not care to remember them either.
Getting older he decided that he really did not want to be married again accidental or not, he also refused any more offers to go out drinking with the guys or girls. NEXT attacks became more regular, and his position in the military began to wear on him after more battles he realized the reason he'd married so many times, companionship was all he ever wanted. It was lonely, killing weighed on every man's mind. It seemed like with every battle, the next one grew darker. Being captured by an enemy wasn’t really on his to-do list while away from home. Somehow he'd managed to escape though nearly shot one of his own men – or rather women by mistake. A woman by the name of Susan had fought beside him a few times, though had gone mostly unnoticed. He found her often checking in on him and nursing him back to health, battle was starting to wear on his mind more, he'd mastered killing humans and some NEXT. His powers were getting stronger. Susan pointed this out and soon made him his own uniform, which Walter laughed at, and got smacked upside the head with. “I can heal myself, how can that help other people?” he asked her. She told him maybe his powers – like her own – were still maturing.
So Walter became a Hero on the side, she supported him the whole time. Hard to say how well known his name was, but the publicity he did get was something to get used to. Thankfully for his training in the military he was able to think fast and last in a real battle with other Heroes and villains. It was at this time Walter realized he could do one other thing with his power, he could pull injury from others onto himself, in turn mostly healing them. Though they would remain weak, at least they would live.
Susan continued to take care of him too. Slowly the man began to grow attached to her. The two desired to stay friends though and let the relationship remain slow. Walter waited three years before planning to ask her to marry him, even all the colors pinned to his coat couldn’t make him more happy than he was with her. They were going to meet up that night, he was anxious about asking her. When he met her in the training room, before the first words could even leave his lips. ------Susan attacked the other men in the area, Susan had been taken over by some other next . Walter pleaded with her as he tried to help the wounded, but found himself getting wounded. He made a split decision and planted a bullet in her brain. Unable to pull her from her trance he took out his lover and the NEXT that had taken over her body. This was the first 'parasitic' NEXT he'd ever heard of, it had merely stepped into her body, and might had done it again were it not for the fact he killed it while it was inside Susan.
After that, Walter fell over the edge. His peers hated to see him go, but allowed him to retire a broken man. The first time he'd loved anyone with all of his heart, his friends dieing in his arms, and his lack of realizing she'd acted weird earlier. So many things added to a type of PTSD in Walter. He gave up being a hero, viewing himself as a failure. He turned to smoking and drinking closing himself off to the world, despite the people out there who believe him to be a hero. He appears care-free, but in truth is just a broken man now living in Sternbuild City.

There's a touch of gray for every shade of blue
★ APPEARANCE
Walter is a middle-aged man, standing tall and at a moderate weight. His body is lean and lightly toned. He is fair skinned sometimes tan. Walter has a thin face with a square chin often covered in light stubble. He has high cheekbones. He has moderate sized lips, a longer nose with a slightly pointed tip, and medium sized ears – one ear barely noticeable, but it is crooked. Walter's left eye is a light-blue color and his right eye is brown. Rarely is he seen without dark circles or worry lines under his eyes, his face is aged yet he still looks somewhat young. His most noticeable scars, one across his left eye starting just over the brow and cutting downward across his eyelid and reaching his cheek, three scars stretch from his hairline back across the left side of his head stopping just before the center of the back of his head, hair will no longer grow where the scars are so they are hard to miss. The rest of his body also seems to be covered in scars though most have faded over the years. He has dull-black hair with some scattered gray here and there, and it always seems to be cut just past his ears with bangs brushed to the right side.
He is a man of simple tastes, his choice in wardrobe is often a pair of jeans and short-sleeve shirt. Often Walter can be seen wearing a heavy coat, either an old black leather worn looking one, or a denim one. He often appears thrown together and somewhat sloppy when wearing casual things. It would hard to get him in one now, but Walter has worn suites before and is very capable of dressing up though chooses not to most of the time.
Along with his normal clothing Walter has three uniforms. One consists of a black high-collar shirt with small gold buttons, it hands down with pockets. His belt is worn over his shirt. Over this he wears a formfitting black coat with high collar, the coat stops at his waist, and the back hangs down to the floor exposing the crimson colored interfacing. The sleeves of the coat have two gold stripes along the upper and, and two just under the elbow, with thick crimson stripe, the cuffs are also turned up with two thin gold stripes and curving pattern. On each shoulder is a crimson epaulette attached with black and gold. With this he wears a pair of crimson colored fitted pants with knee-high black boots and black gloves. A thick red sash wraps around his waist with a black and gold belt with gold buckle, and a brown belt worn a loosely under that.
Walter's second uniform consists of a white suit-shirt, a black vest over that is a light-weight white waistcoat with black buttons. Over this, he wears a black formfitting coat that buttons along the right side with silver buttons, the coat reaches the ground all the way around him with the slit going down the right side with undone buttons down the edge. A row of silver studs decorate the sleeves of his coat in a thin line all the way down to his white cuffs that are folded upwards with a red stripe going around them. The shoulders each have a black and silver tie that hold dark very long exaggerated epaulettes that go past his waist, also connected to his shoulders are thin red ties. He often has a white sash that goes across his chest, though always has a very thick red almost-scarf-like sash that ties in a small bow in the back and then flows down ending in tassels. A thick black belt with a large gold buckle helps hold this in place. To finish it he wears a pair of black pants with tall black boots.
His final uniform is a little more simple. A formfitting black or dark red coat with a folded over red collar and cuffs, over a white suit shirt. The collar around the back of his neck stands up and is a gold color matching the trimming of the coat. On each shoulder is a gold epaulette attached with red and gold. He also has long pieces of red cloth tied around each of his upper arms. A few dark red or black strips and belts around his waist, completes the uniform with a pair of dark pants and boots.
Lately he is a man who couldn’t care less about his appearance to other people. He is easily and most often mistaken for a drunk, which is partly true. Walter keeps himself showered and dressed, tough on his worst days his hair is unruly and he smells like smoke and beer. He slouches and does not try to impress people. If somehow inspired enough, Walter can clean himself up and when he does he often dresses a little better, stands up straight and tends to handle himself more like a gentleman, yes he does know how, though often has no reason to.

★ PERSONALITY
To most people Walter is a simple man, and often a drunk man. Upon meeting him most consider him a sloppy older man with nothing better to do with his life than drink it away, which may or may not be true, but clearly he cares about little else most of the time. He manages to smile and can engage in small talk when he isn’t wasted. It is still clear though that Walter is a man who does not care to get emotionally involved with people anymore. The smile he wears and his laughter is real, but seems somewhat empty too.
He is genuinely a calm man often in control of his emotions. He seems like a repetitively carefree and happy man on normal days. He is the type of guy most people don’t have a problem with, and the kind of man that will listen to anyone’s problems without even an ounce of judgment. When he has something to say, Walter speaks his mind, but he is a very mild man and rarely says anything to be openly rude to someone, not that he guards every word sometimes people take him way too seriously. He enjoys small-talk and offering advice if he has any to give. He is laid-back without too many cares, or so it would seem. He is also a man who is open to trying new things and enjoys a good joke just as much as he likes teasing others. In truth Walter has a silly side that loves to see others around him laugh and smile, when the mood strikes him he is the type to openly do something silly or stupid just to get a small reaction.
One might say that he is also cocky when it comes to dealing with things. While normal people are safe, those that have begun to wear on his nerves often get some kind of sarcastic remark from him from time to time. And, he's been known to taunt others before putting them in their place, while he never looks for fights, they sometimes find him. Oh well, sometimes he feels that its his job to put these young punks in their places. Sometimes he is downright devious when he is in his right mind, he seems to be able to plot or plan small things where the outcome is either hilarious or a complete fail. He has a rather good poker or 'acting' face, able to get close enough to others who think he is serious, just before saying or doing something stupid and mocking them.
Walter hides his emotions and tends to have them sink deep within himself as not to bother other people. He has always been an emotion man, though remains in control of them most of the time as not to act out or anything. But, he is the type of man to cry and not have much shame about doing so. Though he has been driven to darker thoughts before, these he chooses to keep to himself and wait them out, or drown them in booze. Over-all only a few things upset him, thoughts of his past lovers, and pointless slaughter seems to hit him the hardest. Slight PTSD from being in the army – along with being a 'hero' part of that time too – contributed to this, most of the time he brushes it off as a 'normal side effect' from battle. Massive amounts of bloodletting, violence and battle often make him physically ill.
Anger is well reflected in him, he does his best to control it and succeeds most of the time he will ramble to someone until he feels better, or just bite the inside of his mouth and do his best to ignore whatever is bothering him. He isn’t easily angered, stupid things don’t bother him stupid people doing stupid things does. It could be because of his age, or merely because he never had the 'phases' most of the younger generation has. Disrespect – not so much to him, but toward other people irritates him to the point that if it is bad enough he'll step in and give his thoughts on the matter to a complete stranger. He also isn’t the type to go looking for a fight, but if someone is bothering him enough he isn’t afraid to show someone whose boss. Few things push him past the point of just rambling like most normal people do. The worst he's done is kick a wall, door, or chair out of the way.
Deep down though Walter's largest problem lies within himself. He isn’t the type to blame others for his problems. He has failed to protect those close to him, has mental weaknesses such as PTSD, which he blames himself for being 'weak' and unable to handle things. He loathes himself to the point he's lost all self-confidence. His self-doubt keeps him from doing much nowadays, and often leaves him with a 'why bother' attitude when it comes to anything dealing with himself. He views himself not only as weak, but rather useless too.
Unfortunately Walter's 'problems' have all led him to drowning them in alcohol. Put bluntly he is a drunk, he drinks almost any day he can get out of bed. Most people would be surprised he's not died yet. When drunk he is still only human his mind goes hazy, half the time he rambles without any point to what he says, eventually he'll just pass out or get bored. He knows its bad for him, but he believes there is no reason to stop either. And, considers most of the worlds problems don’t need him.
Despite everything and all of the clue-less acting and self loathing, he is in fact a very smart man. He's seen battle and lived, he has had to deal with countless problems in his own life and in his years has become wiser even though most wouldn’t think so. He was once considered a hero though most wouldn’t recognize him or maybe never knew his name. Aside from this he is very well versed in fighting with with and without powers. He has naturally always liked to learn new things and is somewhat curious about things still. Sometimes he finds himself wanting to help someone out, but often kicks himself and keeps his mouth shut, but because it's in his nature to help people sometimes he does so without realizing it. Most people could care less what he has to say and consider him nothing more than a washed up old man. Walter merely needs some reason to do more with himself.

★ Backstory

--Healing: Walter's NEXT power gives him the ability to shrug off most mild wounds and heal himself from them. While this gives him the ability to get up after being tossed around a while, it does have its downsides. He cannot regenerate limbs, and as of so far he cannot heal limbs by sticking them back on or anything. The worse the wound is the lounger it heals and more likely it is to leave scared tissue. For example if he were to get shot it would still hurt a LOT, but he could heal from it if it is a through-and-through. If he is shot and the bullet hits some place vital he cant really heal from it if it is stuck there because healing around it would likely be a bad idea. Once an object is removed Walter may heal from it depending on the damage it will take however long. Walter CAN die, shots to the head, or anything removing his head or heart till instantly kill him. Losing a massive amount of blood also leaves him drained even if he heals the wound he cant replace the blood. Finally the last thing Walter has learned he can do is pull the wounds from others, though this means taking them on himself. This can only be done once a day.
